Privacy Policy
Effective September 1, 2026
Careping takes your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over your data.
We do not sell your personal information.
1. What We Collect
We collect only what we need to run the App:
- Name and email address when you create an account.
- Phone number and relationship label for your emergency contacts.
- Location data, tracked in the background so we can include your last known location in an alert.
- Video recordings you make during check-ins (proof-of-life videos).
- Check-in history, timestamps and any message you include.
- Basic device information (device type, OS version, app version, crash logs) for troubleshooting.
- IP address and approximate geolocation derived from it, for security and abuse prevention.
2. Why We Collect It
We use your data to:
- Run the check-in service and send alerts if you go silent for 48 hours.
- Share your last known location and proof-of-life video with your emergency contacts when an alert is triggered.
- Send you notifications and reminders.
- Improve the App, fix bugs and develop new features.
- Detect, prevent and address fraud, abuse or security issues.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data for third-party advertising. We do not build profiles for third-party marketing.
3. Who We Share Your Data With
We share your data only in these situations:
- Emergency contacts you have added, they receive your check-ins and alerts.
- Guardians who have accepted your invite, they see your check-in status.
- Service providers who help us run the App (cloud storage, push notifications, analytics, customer support). They are contractually required to protect your data and cannot use it for their own purposes.
- Law enforcement or government bodies, if required by law, subpoena or valid legal process, or to protect the safety of users.
- Acquirers, in the event Careping is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We will notify you before your data is transferred.
We never sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Location Data
Location is tracked in the background automatically. It is used only to:
- Record your last known location for emergency alerts.
- Display your location to emergency contacts and Guardians when an alert is triggered.
We do not share your location with advertisers or data brokers. You can turn off location access in your phone settings at any time, but the App will not work correctly without it.
5. Proof-of-Life Videos
Videos you record during check-ins are stored securely and shared only with your emergency contacts and Guardians as part of an alert. Videos are time-stamped and include an anti-deepfake challenge to verify authenticity.
You can delete your videos at any time from within the App.
6. Data Retention
- Your account data is kept for as long as your account is active.
- Check-in history and videos are kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically.
- When you delete your account, all your data is deleted within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
- Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained indefinitely for analytics and product improvement.
7. Your General Rights
Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.

- Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.
- Access controls so only authorized staff can access user data.
- Regular security reviews and monitoring.
- Secure password storage using salted hashing.
However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs that affects your data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
9. Children
Careping is not intended for anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at hello@care-ping.com and we will delete it promptly.

10. International Users

By using the App, you consent to this transfer. Where required, we use standard contractual clauses or other lawful mechanisms to protect your data during international transfers.
11. Do Not Track
Some browsers and devices support a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. Because there is no industry-wide standard for how to respond to DNT signals, the App does not currently respond to them.
